Conan

Today I was out looking for a tomato cage and a box fan. I ended up at the mall where I bought a comic book and tried the new Starbucks roast coffee.

I have not bought a comic book in years but I stopped in Comics and More for a look-see. I was just curious to see what's going on in the world of comics. Most titles these days are printed on nice glossy paper with a limited amount of ads and cost $3.00 to $4.00. This is a big improvement from my youth when comics were published on newspaper paper and were full of ads (but cost about 50 cents an issue).

The new issue of Conan the Cimmerian caught my eye and the special zero issue had a special promotional price of 99 cents so I purchased a copy. With only 16 pages it is hard to judge how good the stories will be but this issue was a nice homage to Robert E. Howard. The artwork was spotty. Some panels looked real good but in most the figures looked blurred, especially the facial features.

I did not have much luck with coffee either. With my new comic book in tow, I headed to the Starbucks stand. I remembered reading about the new roast, Pike Place roast, so i tried a cup. I had my coffee black, no cream or sugar. The new roast is lighter but still slightly over-roasted for my taste. Meh, it's coffee.

So my impulse purchases were not the greatest but they only set me back a few bucks.
